A caller in the Fort Seward area reported hearing a bear but not seeing it. He was told bears are an inevitable occurrence in the area at this time of year. Police were advised.
A person reported seeing an unattended campfire at Moose Meadows. The caller tried to put the fire out but she was unsure whether she was successful. Troopers and the fire department were advised.
A Small Tracts Road resident reported placing a former tenant’s belongings outside of the residence. He was told the issue was a civil matter.
A caller reported seeing a vehicle parked at 19 Mile Haines Highway with an unattended dog beside it. Troopers were advised.
A caller reported a verbal dispute with a person on Deishu Drive. The caller was told to stay away from the person. Police patrolled the area and found no further issues.
Sunday, June 15
A caller reported an employee at a Main Street business left trash on top of their dumpster and birds had gotten into it.
A person reported the dumpster at the Small Boat Harbor was overflowing. The harbormaster had the trash picked up.
Saturday, June 14
A Small Tracts Road resident reported a person had left items at their house and was refusing to pay a storage fee. He was told the issue was a civil matter.
A person reported ravens getting into the dumpsters at the police department. The garbage was picked up and the top tightened down.
A caller reported a pick-up truck had been parked on Main Street for more than one hour. Police responded and told the owner to move the truck.
A person asked about gas being siphoned out of vehicles in the airport area. The caller was told all the publicly released information is available in the newspaper and on the police department’s Facebook page.
A caller reported a horse loose near 2 Mile Haines Highway. The owner detained the horse.
A traffic stop resulted in a warning for speeding.
Friday, June 13
A caller reported two young children weren’t wearing helmets while riding an ATV driven by an adult near the intersection of Old Haines Highway and Beach Road. Police responded and told the adult that children must wear helmets when riding ATVs.
A Mink Way resident reported an “unusual pattern of branches” leading to his burn pile and asked police to investigate. Police responded but found nothing out of the ordinary.
A person reported seeing a confused man carrying a rifle near Main Street. Police responded but were unable to locate the man.
A caller reported receiving a suspicious phone call from someone from the “federal department” asking for the caller’s checking account information. The caller was advised to contact her bank.
Thursday, June 12
A Main Street bar reported a raucous patron and asked police to conduct a walkthrough. The person called back to say the patron had left.
A Deishu Drive resident asked for help with water turnoff. The public works department was advised.
A Piedad Road resident reported discovering a litter of kittens after startling a defensive cat from his garage. Haines Animal Rescue Kennel was advised.
Police and HARK responded to 2.5 Mile Haines Highway for a horse that had kicked down a fence and was loose within eight feet of the highway. The horse was contained, but the owner was warned additional incidents could result in charges.
Wednesday, June 11
A caller on Mud Bay Road reported he had shot a moose that had charged him twice. Wildlife troopers responded and investigated. The Haines Volunteer Fire Department received the salvaged meat.
A caller reported a violation of signage code on Portage Street. Police were advised.
A person reported a vehicle parked in front of the stop sign on Portage Street. Police responded but didn’t locate a vehicle.
A Deishu Drive resident reported their water had been turned off. The public works department was advised.
A Skagway resident reported he was lost on the Spring Lake Trail. The cell phone tower had misdirected the call to the Haines Police Department, and the caller was advised to stand by for the Skagway Police Department to contact him.
A caller reported hearing a female voice yelling and cursing near the intersection of Sixth Avenue and Main Street. Police responded but didn’t locate a disturbance.
Traffic stops resulted in a citation for failure to provide proof of insurance and verbal warnings for speeding and a defective taillight.
Tuesday, June 10
A person reported a man yelling on the Port Chilkoot Dock. Police responded and found the man was only singing to music.
Dispatch relayed a death notification from an out-of-state caller to a Haines resident.
Dispatch received five medical calls and three canine calls.
