A person reported an unauthorized burn on Lutak Road near the ferry terminal. A person was burning treated wood and materials that contained petroleum-based products. The fire department responded and extinguished the fire.
A caller reported juveniles skateboarding near the Small Boat Harbor. Police were advised.
An anonymous caller reported a vehicle speeding on Main Street. Police were unable to locate it.
Dispatch relayed a message from a Wasilla resident to a Haines resident.
A caller reported finding part of a rusted firearm in a garden at a Front Street residence. He was advised that since it was not identifiable, it need not be reported.
Sunday, June 8
A person reported an oil sheen on the surface of the Small Boat Harbor. The harbormaster was advised and responded.
A person reported gas had been stolen from his boat near 1 Mile Haines Highway. An officer initiated a case for theft and criminal mischief.
A traffic stop resulted in a warning for speeding.
Saturday, June 7
A 911 caller reported a controlled burn. Dispatch documented the burn and told the caller to use the business line instead of the emergency line next time.
A caller near 3.5 Mile Haines Highway called police to report many coyotes in the area. The caller was afraid for her dog’s safety. The Department of Fish and Game was advised.
A traveler from California contacted police after being denied entry to Canada. Dispatch provided him with resources to help him reach his destination.
A caller reported a cruise ship in the Upper Lynn Canal did not have appropriate running lights in a low visibility situation. Officers on patrol saw a cruise ship that appeared sufficiently illuminated. The caller was provided with a number for the U.S. Coast Guard.
Officers responded to a report of a domestic dispute at a Fourth Avenue residence. Investigation revealed a 23-year-old woman was intoxicated and disorderly, but no crime had occurred. Two people agreed to remain separated for the evening.
Friday, June 6
An Allen Road resident asked for help ensuring a controlled burn was completely extinguished. She called back to say she was confident the fire was out.
A caller reported a camera had been stolen from the skate park two days earlier. Police initiated a case.
Police served a search warrant on a Fort Seward business to photograph the “dune buggy-like” vehicle involved in a May 24 accident.
A person asked police to investigate a “suspicious” man fishing near 4.5 Mile Haines Highway. Police responded and determined no laws were being violated.
An anonymous caller reported dirt in the road at 4.5 Mile Haines Highway.
Thursday, June 5
A business near 1 Mile Haines Highway reported there was evidence someone had tried to siphon gas from a vehicle. It was unknown if gas was actually taken. Police initiated a case.
Border patrol called to request emergency services for a man who was injured when his vehicle’s radiator malfunctioned. Emergency crews responded.
A person reported a vehicle with Canadian license plates driving 100 mph near 24 Mile Haines Highway. Troopers were advised.
A caller reported receiving an “unusual” phone call. Police said they couldn’t do anything as the caller wasn’t being threatening or saying obscene things. Police advised the caller to contact the phone company to track and block the unwanted calls.
A caller asked police to conduct a welfare check on her child staying with the caller’s estranged husband. Police conducted the check and found the child in good health.
A Haines Highway resident asked for information regarding child custody during divorce proceedings. The caller was advised to contact the court.
Wednesday, June 4
An anonymous caller reported he heard a rumor about thefts of money and pills in the Haines area. The information was relayed to patrol officers and the caller was told to encourage witnesses to come forward.
Traffic stops resulted in warnings for defective brake lights and incorrect placement of registration tags.
Tuesday, June 3
A caller reported a dog barking all night, every night on FAA Road. The caller had reported the barking dog multiple times. Police contacted the dog’s owner, who said the police could arrest the dog if they wanted to. Police responded to the address but the dog wasn’t outside.
A person reported a possibly intoxicated driver in a business parking lot near 0 Mile Haines Highway. Police located the vehicle near Second Avenue and Ed Shirley Drive, but determined the driver wasn’t impaired.
Dispatch received two medical calls and three canine calls.
