A Raven Road resident called to ask for help getting a pet macaw out of a tree. The Haines Animal Rescue Kennel was advised.

A person came to the station to report personal identification information was taken from a campground where he was at a week ago. An officer spoke with the man.

A caller reported a raven flew into the wall of their apartment building and was injured. The American Bald Eagle Foundation was advised.

An officer reported overflowing trash bins in the Portage Cove area. A message was left with state parks.

Sunday, May 25

An officer conducted a walk-through at the request of a downtown bar.

A caller asked police to conduct a welfare check on two people sitting and lying on the side of Fair Road. The caller reported they got up and were walking around. An officer responded but was unable to locate the people.

Dispatch received a 911 call for a domestic dispute in the Porcupine area. Troopers responded and arrested a 64-year-old man for fourth-degree assault.

A caller reported a violation of a domestic violence protective order. Officers were unable to substantiate the report.

Saturday, May 24

Staff at a downtown bar asked for help with a man refusing to leave. An officer responded but the man had left.

A Dalton Street resident reported an apparently intoxicated man trying to gain access to their home. An officer responded and took the man to the campground he was staying at.

A resident brought in a set of keys covered in vomit he found in a Second Avenue apartment building hallway. The keys were later claimed by the owner.

A Piedad Road resident reported a large box with a stuffed penguin inside was stolen the prior night. The stuffed penguin was discovered perched on a parked pickup truck downtown and claimed by the owner.

Dispatch received a 911 call for a possible domestic dispute. Officers responded and found a woman sitting next to Young Road being helped by other people. Officers initiated a case and arrested a Haines man for fourth-degree assault.

An officer assisted with a youth being kicked out of their home. The youth was placed in temporary care.

Harbor staff requested extra patrols over the weekend.

A person complained of people impeding traffic on Fair Drive. An officer responded and determined the people had been lined up for an event to start.

A caller reported a woman at a downtown business who showed signs of being assaulted. Officers responded and initiated a case.

A caller reported people with open containers of alcohol near the intersection of Haines Highway and Mud Bay Road. Officers responded and gave warnings.

A caller reported fireworks being set off at Chilkat State Park. Troopers responded.

A Mathias Avenue resident reported a local dwelling was unfit for a child to live in. An officer responded and found no signs of harm. A report was sent to the Office of Children’s Services.

An officer asked borough staff to be informed the parade ground bathrooms needed attention.

A caller reported a four-wheeler driving recklessly through crowded areas at the parade grounds. An officer contacted and warned the person.

Dispatch received a 911 call for a vehicle rollover near the gravel pit on Major Road. Officers, EMT and fire crews responded. A case was initiated.

A non-custodial parent reported they thought their child got in a van without permission. Dispatch contacted the custodial parent who said the child was at home.

Friday, May 23

A caller reported a reckless driver on Main Street. An officer responded but couldn’t locate the vehicle.

An officer gave a warning for illegally parking on the sidewalk of Beach Road near Port Chilkoot Dock.

A Deishu Drive resident reported a bottle was thrown at them from a blue truck. An officer responded, canvassed the area and spoke with neighbors.

A caller reported a child playing in the middle of Union Street. An officer responded and returned the child to a responsible person.

A Small Tracts Road resident asked for help getting into a locked cabin.

Police arrested a 23-year-old man for driving under the influence near Beach Road.

A person turned in property they found that contained drug paraphernalia. Officers initiated a case.

A resident reported a party at a nearby baseball field. Officers responded and found children playing baseball.

Dispatch received a 911 call for a person refusing to leave a Deishu Drive residence. An officer responded and took the person home.

Multiple callers reported a four-wheeler driving recklessly without lights in the Fort Seward area. An officer responded and told the person to turn on the lights and use caution.

Officers contacted a vehicle driving without taillights near 3 Mile Haines Highway and gave a warning.

Thursday, May 22

A caller reported a reckless driver in the fairgrounds area but couldn’t provide license information. Officers were unable to locate the vehicle.

An anonymous caller reported a person driving recklessly near 1 Mile Mud Bay Road. An officer responded but was unable to locate the vehicle.

Wednesday, May 21

A caller reported finding a blanket with bones in it near 21 Mile Haines Highway. Troopers responded and determined the bones were those of a dog.

A caller reported two moose crossing Old Haines Highway near Tlingit Park. An officer responded and warned people nearby.

Tuesday, May 20

Police received a civil packet and served it on a Haines resident regarding an unlicensed business.

A caller reported they saw a person riding a skateboard down the middle of the Haines Highway near the school. The skateboard apparently hit a rock, and the board flew under a truck operated by a construction company. The skateboarder wasn’t hit or injured, but the caller expressed concern about unsafe skateboarding.

A Beach Road resident reported receiving a call he believed to be fraudulent.

Dispatch received 13 medical calls and 10 canine calls.
