Sunday, April 13

       Troopers reported discovering multiple prescription drugs and hypodermic needles inside a vehicle that had thawed out of a snow bank near Tlingit Park. Police responded and had the vehicle towed after initiating a case. The drugs and needles were secured for destruction.

      A caller reported someone on Sunshine Street burning plastic and causing noxious smoke. Police responded and the person denied burning plastic, but said he had not reported the burn. Police told him to call in and report the burn.

      A caller asked for ministerial association assistance with fuel and heating. Dispatch left messages for the group.

   A caller reported a four-wheeler near the intersection of Front Street and Beach Road speeding with no lights on. Police were unable to locate it.  

Saturday, April 12

   A caller reported he had potential information regarding an ongoing investigation into break-ins on Deishu Drive. Police are following up.

    A Vermeer Street resident reported “a lot of smoke but no fire yet” at his home. He was told to get all people out of the house. Firefighting crews responded.

    A person at the Small Boat Harbor asked for help as he had fallen and couldn’t get up. Police responded, finding the man intoxicated but not injured.

    Police reported a large bag of trash on Mud Bay Road near Cemetery Hill. State road crews were advised.

   An FAA Road resident reported smoke and wanted to let authorities know it was coming from a controlled burn. Police investigated and found the fire was under control.

    An intoxicated man at the Small Boat Harbor asked for medical assistance. He was taken to the clinic where he was found to be okay. He was taken into police custody for his own protection as he was unable to care for himself.

       A person reported a woman might have broken her leg near 33 Mile Haines Highway. An ambulance responded.

     A caller reported a possible violation of a protective order. Police are investigating.

Friday, April 11

  Police wrote a ticket for a vehicle parked illegally at Second Avenue and Main Street.

     Troopers lodged a prisoner from the Lemon Creek Correctional Facility to await an upcoming court appearance in Haines.

   A person reported an intoxicated man driving in the Haines area. Police searched for the driver but were unable to locate him.

        A Main Street business owner reported an unknown vehicle had caused damage to one of his buildings some time during the day. Police investigated but the man declined to pursue charges.

   A caller reported needing a hand at the Small Boat Harbor, but the call was disconnected. Police responded and requested an ambulance for the caller.

Thursday, April 10

     A caller reported a suspicious man had been in the upstairs of the Gateway Building on Main Street. The caller shouted at the man, who left on foot in an unknown direction. The caller was unable to provide a description of the man and was advised to call back if the man returned.

     Police investigated a possible violation of a domestic violence protective order at a Small Tracts Road residence, but found no violation had occurred.

  A caller asked police to conduct a welfare check on a man who had blood and feces on him. Police contacted the man near the Small Boat Harbor, and found that aside from a laceration on his ear, he appeared in good health. The man refused medical attention.

   A man came to the police station saying he had no money and needed help getting to Klukwan. He was referred to public transportation services.

  A traffic stop resulted in a warning for failure to stop at a stop sign.

Wednesday, April 9

  A caller asked for help with a gas pump at a Second Avenue gas station that failed to turn off automatically and spilled two gallons of fuel. The responsible party was contacted and advised.

  A caller reported two people acting strangely outside of American Bald Eagle Foundation. The man and woman, who were on bikes, were apparently upset they were unable to enter the foundation without paying an entry fee. Police performed extra patrols in the area.

    A homeless couple contacted police asking for help with a place to stay and long-term housing. Haines Ministerial Association members were aware of the couple and have told them they are only able to provide a ticket to Juneau. The couple said they don’t want to go to Juneau and asked for a jail cell, which police could not provide. The couple said they will likely be sleeping outside instead.

Tuesday, April 8

  A Mathias Avenue resident reported her thermometer was stolen from outside her home. Police were advised.

     Dispatch received 14 medical calls and three canine calls.
