A caller reported a possible abandoned baby whale near Lutak Inlet. The caller said there were no other whales around it and it “appeared lost.” Officers responded but could find no sign of the whale.
The clinic called to request pick up of a medevac crew from the airport.
A caller reported a business overcharged the caller’s credit card. Investigation revealed it was likely an accident and the business owner is taking care of it.
Dispatch received a protective order from the court regarding alleged stalking. Police are trying to locate the respondent to serve the order.
The Haines Animal Rescue Kennel was advised of a dog on the corner of Third Avenue and Main Street.
A traffic stop resulted in a verbal warning for failure to stop at a stop sign.
Sunday, June 2
A caller reported loud music blaring on Second Avenue. The caller was unsure of where the music was coming from.
Dispatch relayed a message between a business owner and patron regarding a credit card left at the business.
Dispatch advised a couple involved in a custody dispute. Officers located a man after an out-of-town caller reported the man was expected in Haines but she had not heard from him.
A traffic stop resulted in a verbal warning for a broken taillight.
Saturday, June 1
A caller reported a suspicious vehicle spinning its tires in the Deishu Drive area. An officer was unable to locate the vehicle.
An officer observed a minor motor vehicle accident on Main Street. The parties said they wanted to handle the situation on their own.
An individual reported involvement in a custody dispute. An officer referred the parties to the court.
A doctor requested a welfare check on a patient who failed to arrive for an appointment. An officer discovered the man was fine.
An individual witnessed a vehicle towing a boat and trailer knock down a utility line on Small Tracts Road. The vehicle did not stop and the caller could not provide a description. Alaska Power and Telephone reported it was a telephone line and the company would fix it Monday
Two traffic stops resulted in verbal warnings for speeding and a defective taillight.
Friday, May 31
Police assisted the Juneau Police Department in serving papers on a woman getting off the ferry in Haines.
A man reported being harassed by another man. The dispute involved one man alleging the other had stolen money from him. Police investigated but did not file charges.
A caller requested traffic control at Second Avenue and Main Street for a disabled vehicle in the intersection. Police arrived to assist but the vehicle was gone.
A downtown business owner reported a man entered the store and harassed a female employee. Police investigated and banned the man from entering the store again.
A caller requested police investigate loud children screaming in a downtown apartment complex. Police investigated and found no emergency.
An individual reported a vehicle speeding down Small Tracts Road. Police were unable to locate the vehicle.
Two traffic stops resulted in verbal warnings for no visible license plate and for a cyclist failing to stop at a stop sign.
Thursday, May 30
A borough employee received a strange letter in the mail involving “weird language” and “apocalyptic symbols.” Police investigated and found the letter recipient was not at risk.
A woman walking on Union Street reported being bitten by a tethered dog. Police initiated a case and the Haines Animal Rescue Kennel was advised.
An out-of-state police department requested information on a Haines resident. The request was forwarded to troopers, as the woman lives outside of the townsite.
An individual reported people driving by a residence on Small Tracts Road, yelling rude remarks about its occupants.
A caller reported loud music in the Deishu Drive area. Police responded and asked the residents to turn the music down.
Wednesday, May 29
A caller reported a moose calf on the edge of the Chilkat River in the Eagle Preserve. Wildlife troopers said they were aware of the situation and letting nature take its course.
Police issued verbal warnings for vehicles parked illegally at the Port Chilkoot Dock.
A caller in the Second Avenue area reported a ladder being suspiciously propped up against his cabin. The ladder was removed.
A motorist reported a vehicle being driven recklessly while leaving town on the Haines Highway. The caller said the vehicle was driving in the oncoming traffic lane and nearly hit two vehicles. Police were unable to locate the vehicle.
A man was arrested on a warrant for failure to appear on a criminal mischief charge. He was released on bail.
Tuesday, May 28
A resident on Union Street reported seeing a trespasser leave her property. Police determined there were no trespassers.
Police responded to an apartment complex to assist an intoxicated woman. The woman was taken to the clinic.
A resident was referred to a counseling service provider for assistance in a personal crisis.
Police met with a resident wishing to document a confrontation at the Small Boat Harbor.
A man from out of town requested help getting a background check performed, as Canadian authorities had stopped him at the border. Police informed the man they could not assist and directed the man to an appropriate contact.
A caller requested police transport her to the clinic. She was provided with a number for a local taxi service.
A caller reported a vehicle partially blocking an alleyway in Fort Seward. The person called back to report a dog had been tethered to the vehicle.
Police met with a resident who expressed concerns about the mental health of another individual.
Police received a report regarding a possible domestic violence crime and initiated an investigation.
Two traffic stops resulted in two citations for failure to stop at a stop sign and failure to show proof of insurance.
