A gigantic thank you to the volunteers of Haines Friends of Recycling who work so hard to keep recyclable and compostable materials out of the landfill. We had 23 volunteers at the Southeast Alaska State Fair who provided public education on recycling and composting. As a result, we filled our recycling trailer with recyclable aluminum and plastic and saved over 100 large bags of compostable materials. The compostable materials are now making compost for many of our local gardeners. This last weekend we had more than 30 volunteers who handled an enormous amount of scrap metal we collected for recycling. What an amazing team!
