The payment of $66,000 to Tony Habra is completely unjustified, inappropriate, and not in conformance with the actual contract. If you read the contract, it says that the contract may be terminated by the Board “by giving the Superintendent thirty (30) days written notice and by paying severance pay equal to 6 months or the duration of the contract, whichever is less.”
Since Mr. Habra resigned, he is entitled to no severance pay under the contract. The Board of Education has no authority to issue a check to a resigned superintendent. This is an illegal inside deal, that betrays the trust of the taxpayers of the Haines Borough. This is an open public document request that the Board of Education produce the 30-day notice of termination as required by the contract. This is also a public request for a refund from Mr. Habra of the unauthorized and illegal payment of $66,000.
The lack of leadership, by the way, lies in the school board. Where is the legal justification for this payment?
