A caller reported motorhomes were parked on the Haines Highway to view the fish wheels. Troopers were advised.

A person reported a domestic dispute on Fourth Avenue. Police responded and found the dispute was over ownership of a dog. Police advised the parties to settle the issue through the court system.

A senior housing tenant reportedly pointed three security cameras toward the ground. Police asked to be contacted if it occurs again.

A resident reported a suspicious man sitting down and looking into the woods. Police located the man, who said he was intoxicated and didn’t want to drive home. The man was able to care for himself and walked home.

Sunday, July 26

A caller reported excessive smoke coming from the Salmon Run Campground and was concerned there might be a fire. Police responded and determined it was a controlled burn.

Saturday, July 25

A caller on Comstock Road asked about the duration of a power and phone outage. Dispatch was unaware of an outage and advised the caller to contact the power company. The caller also reported a pole near her home had been hit and had exposed wires. The power company responded.

A Barnett Drive resident reported excessive water coming from the overflow pipe on the street. The public works department was advised.

A caller reported a person’s burn barrel on Dalton Street had been left unattended and had been smoldering all day. Dispatch contacted the owner, who said she would attend the controlled burn.

During a traffic stop near the Small Boat Harbor, police arrested a 35-year-old man for driving with a revoked license. Police impounded the vehicle and issued additional citations for a broken windshield, bumper violations, failure to carry registration, failure to carry proof of insurance, no front license plate and failure to register a vehicle. The man was later released on performance bond.

A caller reported that a person had been continuously waving a gun the previous night. The caller was unable to provide any information on a specific crime. The caller later phoned back to report the person drove away drunk, but did not have a description of the vehicle or direction of travel. Police did not respond.

Numerous callers reported hearing fireworks near the beach and downtown. The fireworks stopped shortly thereafter.

A caller on Lynn View Drive reported an underage person was drunk and disorderly, and wouldn’t leave the caller’s home. Police responded, but the juvenile had left.

Friday, July 24

A caller on Sunshine Road reported excessive road construction noise on Piedad Road at 6:30 a.m. Dispatch advised the woman of borough code and told her to file a complaint with the borough.

Police received information regarding drug trafficking. Troopers were advised.

T hree callers reported a brown bear at Tlingit Park. Police responded but did not locate the bear.

A caller reported seeing fireworks near the Fort Seward area but they had stopped.

Thursday, July 23

A person reported the expected and attended death of a Haines woman on Comfort Care. An ambulance was dispatched.

A caller reported a controlled burn on Lutak Rock appeared very large and unattended. Fire personnel responded and found the fire under control.

A caller reported the apparent theft of his boat off Mud Bay Road near Letnikof Cove. Dispatch referred the caller to troopers.

A caller complained about a person on Battle Road continually driving home drunk. Dispatch told the caller that unless there was a crime in progress, there was nothing police could do. The caller was advised to alert police with the vehicle description, location and license number the next time it happened.

Wednesday, July 22

A caller reported a bear ran through a Main Street parking lot and went over the wall in the bank parking lot. Wildlife troopers were advised.

A woman reported finding a bicycle in the Carr’s Cove area. The bike owner can contact the woman through the police department.

A Haines resident reported receiving a fraudulent letter stating she had won the lottery. Dispatch advised her to turn it into the post office, as mail fraud schemes are a federal crime.

A Beach Road resident reported hearing gunfire, which turned out to be a neighbor using his gun range.

Police responded to a vehicle accident in the Fort Seward area and initiated a case.

Tuesday, July 21

A Battle Road resident reported a person was yelling and pounding on the walls for several hours. Police responded and found the person was having an argument with his cat. Police warned the person for disorderly conduct.

A Front Street business owner reported a yield sign had blown over and someone had set it back up in the wrong direction. Borough workers returned the sign to its proper location.
