Klukwan resident reported seeing a flare in the sky across the river. Troopers were advised.

A resident living near Fourth Avenue and Dalton Street reported a bear had strewn garbage around. An officer told a responsible party to clean it up.

Police served domestic violence protective orders on a Haines resident and Klukwan resident.

An Officer’s Row resident reported she found her vehicle had been gone through and the door left open. The car hadn’t been damaged and nothing had been taken. She didn’t want a case initiated but wanted police to be aware of the incident.

Sunday, Oct. 26

A school employee reported bears near the high school had moved to Deishu Drive. Police, troopers, and Fish and Game were advised.

A person came to the station and reported having trouble with the ATM on Main Street. He said the machine wasn’t dispensing money, though the receipt showed money had been dispensed.

A Fort Seward area resident reported an older man who appeared disoriented walking toward Tower Road. An officer located the man, who had gotten lost. The officer gave the man a ride to his destination.

A caller reported two iPods stolen from his car while it was parked on Front Street. An officer responded and initiated a theft case.

A woman asked for help getting home from a residence near the intersection of Third Avenue and Union Street. An officer responded but the woman was gone. The woman had been taken to a relative’s residence on Small Tracts Road. The officer met with the woman, who was intoxicated, but otherwise fine.

Saturday, Oct. 25

A school employee asked police to conduct extra patrols around the school as there was a late-night dance scheduled and bears had been in the area.

A 911 caller reported a woman had fallen near the SEARHC clinic and injured her face. The woman refused ambulance service.

A caller reported water flowing out from under the door of the visitor center employee entrance. Public Works responded and turned the water off.

A Cathedral View Drive resident reported young teenagers standing in the driveway of a neighbor’s home. She said she didn’t believe the homeowners were home and the teenagers were giving her the “evil eye.”

A Fourth Avenue resident asked police to conduct extra patrols around her house because she was receiving threatening phone calls. An officer responded and spoke with the caller and the person making the phone calls, who was told to stop calling.

A caller on Helms Loop reported a window on her residence had been removed. An officer contacted the resident, who had found out a relative had gone through the window after forgetting their key.

A Front Street business reported a theft of $30 from their property. An officer responded and initiated a case for theft. No break-in was involved.

A school employee asked police to drive through the parking lot near the school gym as there were two brown bears trying to tip over the dumpster. Police responded, but the bears were gone.

Friday, Oct. 24

Klukwan resident came to the station to report an assault had taken place in Klukwan. Troopers were advised.

A Chilkat Trail resident reported finding a door open on his friend’s car. He didn’t know if anything had been taken but wanted to report the incident.

A contractor working on the Fort Seward barracks building reported someone had used an axe to chop a hole in the dumbwaiter access door. The caller said nothing was missing from the building, but he was reporting the incident as criminal mischief. He asked police to conduct extra patrols in the area. A caller traveling to town on the Haines Highway reported a pickup truck had broken down near 12 Mile. He said the people in the pickup were hitching to town because the caller didn’t have enough room to transport them. Troopers were advised.

A caller reported a leaking nozzle at a fuel station near 0 Mile Haines Highway. The responsible party was advised.

Thursday, Oct. 23

A caller reported her car broke down near 1 Mile Haines Highway. She said the car was off the road and would be moved in the morning.

Wednesday, Oct. 22

A resident of the Dusty Trails apartment complex reported a brown bear trying to get in the dumpster. The caller scared the bear off. Police, troopers, and Fish and Game were advised.

Police conducted a welfare check on a Deishu Drive resident after a mental health worker received a phone call from the resident. The person was intoxicated but fine.

Tuesday, Oct. 21

A Chilkoot Estates subdivision resident asked for help ensuring there were no bears in the area as he was walking home. Dispatch told the caller to make noise and shine his flashlight around. Officers were advised.

A Comstock Road resident reported it sounded like bears were trying to get into garbage stored in her yard. Dispatch told the caller how to scare the bear away. Police, troopers, and Fish and Game were advised.

A Lynnview Drive resident reported she found her back door open the previous day. She said there was nothing missing or damaged. Officers were advised.
