A caller reported campers parked on Beach Road longer than 24 hours. An officer contacted one of the camper owners, who said they would leave the area. Police placed a warning on the other camper.

Canadian police asked for help locating the owner of an abandoned vehicle in Teslin, Y.T. The owner is a Haines resident.

A Comstock Road resident reported loud fireworks. Police responded but didn’t hear or see anyone setting off fireworks.

A caller reported a cat had attacked him a second time. The Haines Animal Rescue Kennel was advised.

Traffic stops resulted in two warnings for speed and a citation for failure to carry proof of insurance.

Sunday, July 5

A caller on East Barnett Drive reported an injured eagle unable to fly. The American Bald Eagle Foundation responded.

A caller reported a suspicious man walking up his driveway on Young Road. The man apparently left when he noticed someone was home. Police responded but were unable to locate the man.

A person asked for the names of people on an apparently distressed boat after she overheard the boat captain speaking to the Coast Guard on the marine radio channel. She was advised to contact troopers or the Coast Guard.

Saturday, July 4

A View Street resident reported fireworks in the area. Officers were advised.

A person reported a large brown bear on Cox Street. Troopers and Fish and Game were advised.

A 911 caller reported two men fighting on Front Street near the Wrangell Art Gallery. Upon further investigation, dispatch discovered the call had “bounced” from Wrangell to Haines, the second time it had happened that week. Alaska Power and Telephone is troubleshooting the problem.

A burglar alarm was received from a Main Street business. Police determined the building was secure and the alarm was most likely set off by a “seal bomb” detonated nearby.

A caller reported a reckless driver who had nearly hit another vehicle near the Small Boat Harbor. Police located the driver and found that the caller had failed to use a turn signal and the other driver was just trying to go around.

Traffic stops resulted in three warnings for speeding and a citation for failure to carry proof of insurance.

Friday, July 3

A man reported a bear that had been visiting boats at the Small Boat Harbor the previous evening was back. Police responded and shot the bear with rubber bullets. The bear jumped in the water and swam to shore.

A boat owner contacted police to complain about a police decision not to shoot a bear that was in the harbor. When he was told no officers were available to talk to, he changed his story and said a bear was on his Beach Road property and he needed police protection. An officer responded, found no bear and told the man not to make false reports.

A caller reported three teenagers skateboarding in the Port Chilkoot Dock parking lot. Police were advised.

Three traffic stops resulted in two warnings for speeding, two citations for failure to carry proof of insurance and one citation for speeding.

Thursday, July 2

A caller reported an injured eagle on a Mud Bay beach. The American Bald Eagle Foundation responded.

A caller reported a small brown bear walking on the beach toward town. Police, troopers, and Fish and Game were advised.

Multiple callers reported loud fireworks near Fourth Avenue and Union Street. Police were unable to locate the fireworks.

Visitors from Skagway came to the station to report a mother cat was moving her kittens across Main Street from one culvert to another, causing traffic to stop. Haines Animal Rescue Kennel was advised.

A 911 caller reported a bear on a boat in the Small Boat Harbor. Police responded and shot the bear with rubber bullets. The bear jumped into the water, swam to shore and ran into the woods.

Wednesday, July 1

A caller reported an unattended campfire near 16 Mile Haines Highway. The Klehini Valley Fire Department put the fire out.

A caller reported a man was yelling at her and acting aggressively. An officer spoke with the caller.

A caller reported a domestic dispute near the intersection of Mathias Avenue and Young Road. Officers spoke with both parties.

An officer found an injured eagle in the River Road area. The American Bald Eagle Foundation responded.

A Young Road caller reported a raven with an injured leg sitting on her steps. The Haines Animal Rescue Kennel responded.

Tuesday, June 30

A caller reported a person called her to say she had won $1 million, but had to pay the person $500 first. Police advised the caller to see if Alaska Power and Telephone could block the calls.

A person reported young boys throwing rocks at a wasp nest in the Tlingit Park bathrooms. Police told the boys to clean up the mess and notified Public Works so the nest could be removed properly.

A caller reported continuous speeding vehicles on Young Road and Barnett Drive. Officers were advised.
