Haines Friends of Recycling is holding its 11th annual electronic waste recycling event June 2-3.
Chairperson Melissa Aronson said HFR has collected and shipped 146,566 pounds of electronic waste since the event’s inception in 2007.
Residents can drop off computers, monitors, printers, televisions, cell phones, cameras, CDs, DVDs, microwaves and other circuit-board gadgetry for 35 cents a pound.

Volunteers work to stack and sort the waste before it is shipped out to a larger electronics recycling firm the following Monday. Aronson said Total Reclaim, with locations in Anchorage and Seattle, shreds plastics and hardware and reuses metals.
“This is all handled very responsibly,” Aronson said.
At 2.5 Mile Small Tracts Road, HFR will accept electronic waste 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day. Call 766-2185 to volunteer.
