I heard this winter on KHNS that Haines is getting ready to log 800 acres in the Porcupine area. I understand the price of these trees is $250,000. The same price we paid for the outhouse at the dock. I know that the powers that be cannot be stopped from this action, (probably), but if you want to see a small example of the results just go up the Sunshine Road and look at the clear-cuts up there. They were logged a quarter century ago. Almost no conifers are usable, only brush three stories high. I challenge anyone to tell me this is a success.

I would like to see old seed trees left standing so that the forest can come back someday. A sufficient amount of old growth trees would be required. I would like to see your children and their grandchildren use these resources into the next century.

Let’s manage these lands for our future, not rape them for our present.
