Lately I’ve been thinking how lucky I am that I was raised in Haines.

At times it felt too small and seemed like there was no privacy. Only until I left did I realize how nice it is to see familiar faces. And though everybody knows your business, it keeps you in check. If you do anything wrong, someone will see, and tell your mother.

I could fill this entire newspaper with individual thank-yous to teachers, coaches and the many friends who treated me like family in their homes.

Haines is a springboard that allows you to do anything you want. I remember many crazy, dangerous, amazingly fun adventures. The Venturer Scouts and Alaska Mountain Guides showed me corners of the world I never dreamed of. I am now unafraid of new adventures and enjoy creating my own.

I am incredibly thankful for Constantine taking me in as one of their family members. I have gained a great amount of real-world experience in my field that no classroom could match. I am able to pay my own way through college and for that and the great opportunities they have given me, I am grateful.

I’ve had unimaginable experiences in my 21 years of living, all because of the magical place I come from. And no matter where I go, it will always be home. Thank you, Haines.
