The final plans of the first phase of the Haines Highway improvement project (3.9 Mile to 12 Mile) has 38 environmental mitigation sites, and 17 pipes designed to allow fish passage that will replace old fish-unfriendly culverts. Thanks to ADOT for listening to the many public comments, and incorporating the public’s concerns into the design. With all the talk about wanting to be bike friendly in Haines, the new six-foot-wide shoulders will certainly be much friendlier to bicyclists. Everyone will be safer as well. I’m looking forward to it.
