The 34th annual Southeast Region Emergency Medical Services Symposium will take place in Haines, April 18-22, 2018, a first for the community.

Volunteer firefighter and EMT Al Badgley said the weekend-long conference would be similar to one in Sitka this month that brought about 75 emergency medical professionals together for workshops and trainings.

The two-day symposium featured 30-to 90-minute sessions, and a three-day pre-symposium that included daylong training classes in a retreat setting.

The Skagway EMT team will help Haines organize next year’s local event. Badgley said they hope to invite groups from Whitehorse, Y.T., as well as instructors from outside Southeast.
