The first Northern Lights Showcase of 2017 will rock the Chilkat Center this month.

Cosmo Fudge will emcee the event that highlights local artists April 30.

Fudge said this showcase will differ from the one late last year as it moves from the center’s main stage to its more intimate lobby. Featured performers will include poet and musician Jacob Brown Beach.

“I’ve been writing poetry off and on for most of my life. I don’t do it in public often, but Cosmo has been encouraging me,” Brown Beach said this week. “I have a lot of stuff I’ve been working on for a very long time, and it’s all coming to a head now.”

In addition to Brown Beach, Tom Heywood, Burl Sheldon, Nancy Berland and Mark Battaion will play lively music as a band. David Hertel will play banjo or mandolin and Ryan Harms will sing and play guitar.

Fudge said singer Taylor Vidic from Skagway will be the show’s headliner, bringing along a band for an upbeat set.

Fudge will provide colorful commentary, stories and possibly shred on his own guitar in between acts.

“I’m hoping that next winter we’ll do a special Northern Lights solstice show on the main stage,” Fudge said.
