The Community Youth Development Triple Threat basketball tournament was a big success last weekend as more than 100 student-athletes and families came to Haines.
On the boy’s side, the tournament winners in the B (grades 6-7) and C (grades 5-6) brackets were the Hooprats from Juneau. The A bracket, featuring grades 7-8, saw Haines win all four of its games.
Coach Kyle Fossman said, “We only had 16 kids but we fielded three teams, so it was a great opportunity for all the kids to play at their respective levels and to play a lot. Some kids even played six games on Saturday.”
The girl’s bracket had only a handful of teams, so teams played a round-robin style series of exhibition games.
Coach Lori Giddings said there were “outstanding games and great support from parents and volunteers, and the kids had a great time.”
