The CVN reported that the reason I voted against awarding the harbor bid was concerns about its design and the process. That is partially true. But as I said at the meeting, my greatest concern is that I am not convinced that Haines can afford to complete, operate, maintain and replace the new harbor as designed with no financial sacrifices on the community or the harbor users’ part, as is promised by the Mayor and administration.

That said, as an assembly member, now that we have voted to move ahead, I will do my best to make sure what we do build is the best facility we can. I am also heartened by the administration’s commitment to meaningful public participation in the remaining phases.
