A Mud Bay Road resident reported people in the area have been constantly running chainsaws and power tools at 5:45 a.m. An officer contacted the workers to remind them of borough and state noise ordinances.

A Small Tracts Road resident reported a 450-pound brown bear in his backyard harassing his dogs. Police and troopers were advised.

A Canadian resident mailed police a set of keys they found that appeared to belong to a Haines resident. Police identified the owner and returned the keys.

A caller reported someone had been camping on the beach for several days where camping was prohibited. An officer contacted the camper, who said he was packing up his things and leaving on the ferry.

A Mosquito Lake Road resident reported receiving threatening phone calls from two Haines residents. An officer contacted the disputing parties and told them to stop calling each other.

A person reported spotting a visibly injured bear cub near 33 Mile Haines Highway. Wildlife troopers were advised.

Sunday, June 7

A person reported an unoccupied vehicle in a Third Avenue ditch. An unsuccessful attempt was made to locate the owner, a Sitka resident.

A Battle Road resident reported being harassed by phone and text messages. An officer was advised.

A caller reported a 15-year-old driving without a valid license near the skate park on Sawmill Road. An officer was advised to contact the parents of the juvenile.

Police received a 911 hang-up. When dispatch called back, the caller said a woman had fallen and hit her head. The caller said the woman did not need medical attention.

Saturday, June 6

A caller in the Eagle Bluff subdivision reported hearing loud explosions followed by gunfire. Troopers were advised.

Troopers arrested a woman at the Canadian border who was wanted for felony identity theft in Missouri.

Friday, June 5

A caller reported an assault in progress on Allen Road. Police responded and arrested a 34-year-old man for four counts of third-degree assault. According to court records, the man jumped on top of a woman and choked her with one hand while wielding a knife in the other.

A Letnikof Estates resident reported his vehicle struck an eagle and it was wedged between his roof rack and the top of his vehicle. The American Bald Eagle Foundation responded and arranged for transport to the Sitka Raptor Center for rehabilitation.

A person reported a downed tree across the road near 4 Mile Lutak Road. Police and troopers moved the tree out of the road until state road crews could respond and remove the rest of the tree.

A caller reported a dilapidated building on Sawmill Creek Road was vandalized with spray paint. The caller asked police to conduct extra patrols there.

A Willard Street resident reported people fighting and yelling in the area. Police responded and advised the parties to separate.

Thursday, June 4

A caller asked the department to conduct a welfare check on a friend whose vehicle had broken down on the Haines Highway near Three Guardsmen. The friend had hitchhiked to Canadian Customs but the border was closed. Dispatch contacted a border official and determined the friend was safe and had arranged for a ride to Haines.

A caller asked dispatch to notify the clinic that they were heading to the clinic in a private vehicle with a medical problem. Dispatch relayed the information.

A Soap Suds Alley resident reported being harassed via phone. An officer contacted the resident.

Wednesday, June 3

A caller reported a cat was ensnared in a fishing net in the Helms Loop area. The Haines Animal Rescue Kennel was advised.

Tuesday, June 2

A caller reported a dead baby moose floating in the Chilkat River near 8.4 Mile Haines Highway. Wildlife troopers were advised.

A person reported an injured bald eagle at the Chilkoot Lake campground. The Haines Animal Rescue Kennel was contacted as the American Bald Eagle Foundation was unavailable. Wildlife troopers were advised.

A caller reported hearing what sounded like a bear rummaging around outside of a residential building on Second Avenue. Police responded but were unable to find any signs of a bear.
