A little over a year ago, for the first time in our almost twenty years of service in the Chilkat Valley, the Hospice of Haines board faced a budget shortfall. We have always operated on a tight-belt budget (like all of the busy nonprofits in the valley), but we recognized the need to ask for help. That’s when we turned to the Chilkat Valley Community Foundation promising to build sustainability with new goals for innovative fundraising.
We were honored and grateful to be awarded a $2,542 grant from CVCF to give us a boost toward fulfilling our promise. In this past year, the momentum fueled by their gift resulted in several unanticipated donations. One was a ten-year promise by Lucy Harrell to pay our lease for an office in the new Community Wellness Center. Another was an unexpected donation from the estate of one of our beloved clients from years past. We are now resettled in our new sunny office with a much needed new printer and are holding steady to provide our volunteer assistance into the future.
Thank you to the Chilkat Valley Community Foundation, to their board and to those who financially support their mission to assist our local nonprofits.
Sincerely, Nancy Schnabel and Beth MacCready
