The Haines Borough Assembly unanimously appointed seven people Tuesday to the borough’s new commission to review its code. Overall, the borough received 12 applications for the new Code Review Commission.

The seven were assigned term lengths at random. The new three-year members are Mike Denker, Daniel Humphrey and Cynthia “CJ” Jones. The new two-year members are Deborah Vogt and Don Turner Jr. The new one-year members are Carolann Wooten and Jerry Lapp.

The commission is supposed to review the borough’s current code. It is meant to recommend changes to support individual rights, to create a more responsive government, and to tackle laws and regulations that it believes are too arbitrary or restrictive.
