Monday, Jan. 13

  A caller reported a woman was sending him offensive text messages containing profanity and insults. Investigation is ongoing.

A person reported snow melt on Beach Road causing a traffic hazard. State road crews were advised.

  A woman reported being hacked remotely on her computer. She clicked a link in an email from a trusted person, but her computer-savvy son told her it was a scam. Though she changed her passwords, the next day the computer was completely powered off and started booting up on its own accord. Police referred the case to the FBI’s Internet Crimes Unit.

  A caller reported a vehicle parked at 7 Mile Haines Highway as a possible traffic hazard.

  A person requested sand at Main Street and Second Avenue. State road crews were advised.

   A caller reported seeing a flame in the direction of Fort Seward. Police investigated and found it was an unauthorized control burn on Deishu Drive. An officer issued a verbal warning.

Sunday, Jan. 12

      A man asked for help locating his daughter, then called again to report he had located her in their Deishu Drive home.

    A trooper advised dispatch that Mud Bay Road was impassable to all but four-wheel-drive vehicles. State road crews were advised.

   A person reported Menaker Road needed to be plowed. State road crews were advised.

Saturday, Jan. 11

   A person reported a theft of gas from the area of 8 Mile Haines Highway. Troopers were advised.

   A person reported vehicles at the Mount Ripinsky trailhead. The caller was concerned the vehicles were a traffic hazard. Troopers responded and determined the vehicles weren’t a hazard.

Friday, Jan. 10

  Public works reported a parking violation on Deishu Drive. An officer responded, but a responsible party had moved the vehicle by the time he arrived.

   A business reported extremely icy conditions on the stretch of Haines Highway between the airport and 6 Mile. State road crews were advised.

  A person reported being bitten by a dog while walking on Young Road. An officer interviewed the victim and the dog’s owner. The victim declined medical attention. The Haines Animal Rescue Kennel was advised and interviewed both the dog owner and victim. The investigation is ongoing.

  A caller reported a parked vehicle partially blocking the outgoing lane at 12 Mile Haines Highway. Troopers were advised.

   A caller reported a vehicle in the roadway on Haines Highway, but troopers determined the vehicle wasn’t blocking traffic.

  Troopers saw a pickup truck in the ditch at 16 Mile Haines Highway and contacted the driver and a male passenger. Troopers determined neither person had been injured when the vehicle left the roadway. Further investigation revealed that both subjects were intoxicated. The driver, a 55-year-old man from Haines, was arrested for driving under the influence.

Thursday, Jan. 9

 A caller reported a theft that was determined to be a misunderstanding after both parties were interviewed.

  A caller reported a vehicle driven by an apparently sleeping driver nearly hit the caller’s vehicle near 5 Mile Haines Highway. An officer responded but was unable to locate the vehicle.

   A person reported the public safety building had a chunk of ice hanging off the roof that posed a hazard. Public works was advised.

Wednesday, Jan. 8

  A juvenile caller asked for help getting a sibling out of a snow bank near the Haines High School track. Police responded and were able to extricate the girl and recover her missing snow shoe.

  Dispatch received 14 medical calls and four canine calls.
