That aerial view of the proposed harbor parking lot – CVN, bottom of page 6, Aug. 11, 2016 edition – what a fabulous illustration! Big, big thanks to the people who put that together! And no matter the talk of landscaping, of moving the park, of a small building for the harbor (I believe I heard that once), the question remains: Is this a need of the town or the want of a few power players? I remain committed to the idea of a better, smaller plan that will satisfy most all of our needs and wants vs. this plan that, apparently for a few, will just up and die if they don’t get this, if they don’t get exactly this plan. Oh me, oh my.
Who lives like that? Who gets to create a $30 million project without inviting everyone in on the conversation? Who gets away with it? Maybe this is the end of life as we know it; things can’t go too much farther into absurdity, can they? Donald Trump runs for president of the United States while Haines dredges up, in our small, still beautiful piece of Portage Cove paradise, 2.46 more acres of parking lot! Why not do it since we can?
Hopefully hainesharborinfo.com becomes the kind of site where everyone, the pros and the cons for Plan 14B, will easily leave comments and ask questions. I’m betting our community is quite equally divided on this topic, that this is not a majority-minority situation.
