The Haines Sheldon Museum’s annual fundraiser, the Totem Trot, celebrates our rich heritage this weekend. Friday from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. is a pasta dinner and silent auction at the Senior Center. Thank you to those who donated beautiful items, including quilts, a plane trip, artwork, and a family portrait session. Registration for Saturday’s runs and walk will start at the dinner. Early Saturday morning, at 7 a.m. for the half marathon runners, 8 a.m. for the 5K walkers and 8:30 a.m. for the 5K runners, Totem Trot participants can register at the museum. The varied start times ensure everyone finishes between 9:30 and 10 a.m. Runners and walkers pass interpreters at each of Haines’ totem poles. For those with limited mobility, we have a course to five totem poles, each a block or less from the other. If you raise $200 in sponsorships from family and friends your registration fee is returned to you. Money raised pays for new exhibits, programs, and children’s events and interactives. We hope the Totem Trot grows, bringing people to Haines annually. I look forward to seeing you at the pasta dinner and/or the Totem Trot. To help with the meal or the race, call the museum at 766-2366 to volunteer.
