Sunday, May 15
A caller reported a boat on the Chilkat River that was possibly in trouble. The caller was advised to contact troopers.
Dispatch received a 911 call from Skagway. The Skagway Police Department advised they had received a call from someone on a capsized boat near the waterfalls by Indian Rock. The Haines harbormaster and U.S. Coast Guard responded. The man was located and taken to Skagway.
Saturday, May 14
An officer issued a warning to a juvenile on Sawmill Road for violating curfew. The juvenile and an adult friend were advised to go back to their residences.
A caller reported people swimming “very far” into the water along Mud Bay Road.
An officer saw a resident operating a motor vehicle they were not licensed for. Police obtained a summons.
A Mud Bay Road resident reported witnessing a boat possibly run aground in the Chilkat River near Pyramid Island. The caller said he could still see the lights on the boat. Troopers were advised.
An officer interviewed an intoxicated man on Third Avenue and determined the man could walk himself home.
Traffic stops resulted in two citations for failure to register a vehicle.
Friday, May 13
A Young Road resident who previously reported a stolen lawn mower said someone had returned it during the night.
A person reported a vehicle leading a horse on Cemetery Hill. An officer responded but was unable to locate the vehicle.
An FAA Road resident reported a speeding vehicle. An officer attempted to contact the vehicle owner.
A 1 Mile Haines Highway resident reported a woman with a small child riding an ATV. An officer responded and issued warnings for not having insurance or registration.
An officer stopped a juvenile on a dirt bike in Fort Seward. The juvenile was told not to ride on the road.
A traffic stop resulted in a warning for defective taillights.
Thursday, May 12
A Young Road resident reported theft of a lawn mower.
A Main Street business owner reported theft of 20-25 pallets.
A Highland Estates resident asked the Haines Volunteer Fire Department to respond to inspect a large brush pile. Fire crews responded.
A person reported a vehicle turned from Third Avenue onto the Haines Highway without using a turn signal.
The owner of an Old Haines Highway business asked police to park on their property. An officer advised he would speak with the business owner.
Wednesday, May 11
A Main Street apartment resident reported loud music. An officer responded and the music was turned down.
A Mud Bay Road resident asked for help removing their pet bird, which was perched 40 feet up in a tree. The Haines Volunteer Fire Department responded and removed the bird from the tree.
A Main Street hotel employee turned in property belonging to a guest left in a room. The person claimed the property from police.
A person reported finding human remains near the Chilkat Cruises Dock. An officer responded and determined the remains belonged to a bear.
A caller reported a man sitting in a van at Tlingit Park watching children play. An officer responded. The man left the area and said he was leaving town.
Tuesday, May 10
Police served a 20-day protective order on a Haines resident.
A caller and health care provider asked police to conduct a welfare check on a Haines resident. The caller was advised the police had just contacted the person.
A business employee reported a man sitting at a picnic table yelling and throwing food at ravens. Police contacted the man.
Police arrested a 74-year-old Haines man for violating conditions of release.
