For the 19th year, the Hospice of Haines Mega Rummage Sale was a whopping success, earning $8,000 to help our direct-service volunteers assist elders. For over 500 hours, 82 sale volunteers hauled, hoisted, sorted, folded, and sold items donated from countless community members. A special thank you, for your days and hours on your feet or seat, goes to: Jean Smith, Carol Duis, Cindy Buxton, Diane LaCourse, Maggie Stern, Randa Szymanski, Nancy Schnabel, Connie Staska and Tim McDonough.

A large part of the success of our efforts includes in-kind gifts or loans from local businesses and organizations: Mountain Market, Howsers, Haines Home Building Supply, Alaska Native Brotherhood, Presbyterian Church, Haines Friends of Recycling, Talia’s Treasures and Norman Hughes. Most notable, for many years running, is the gift Paul Nelson gives by bearing the weight of unwanted rummage at Acme Transfer. Thank you to the Southeast Alaska State Fair and Aldeana Stout for the venue and help. That’s a stunning collaboration of good hearts and hands.
