The people of Haines understand the importance of nonprofits to our quality of life and for the services nonprofits provide that government does not provide. Nonprofits thrive with the volunteer involvement and financial support of hundreds of community residents. The borough should step up to the plate with financial support for the programs that benefit us all and support some of the needs of tourism. Local nonprofits take care of our children, create community events, provide services for our domestic animals, look after our environment, bring out-of-town money and visitors, and so much more. With our new budgeting cycle coming up, let’s really get behind supporting our nonprofits and enable them to do even more to help our economy.
