Monday, Feb. 2

A caller reported someone had tampered with her vehicle while it was parked on Union Street. The vehicle’s key was broken off inside the ignition. An officer was advised.

A person from Canada called to see if there was a warrant out for her arrest. There wasn’t.

Sunday, Feb. 1

A 911 caller reported a car driving erratically hit the garage door of a business at Third Avenue and Dalton Street and drove away. An officer initiated an investigation.

A caller reported her car had been hit by a driver. The caller’s vehicle description matched the description from a previous call. A man found at a local bar was arrested for driving under the influence, reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident and refusing a chemical test.

Saturday, Jan. 31

A business asked dispatch to relay a message to another business regarding perishable freight. The message was relayed. The business called back later and said the freight still hadn’t been picked up. Dispatch called the other business again.

Friday, Jan. 30

An out-of-state caller asked police to conduct a welfare check on a Haines relative. Dispatch contacted the relative and gave the caller’s contact information.

Police released a photo of a suspect in the recent library burglary. A caller reported he recognized the hooded sweatshirt in the photo. The caller said it looked very similar to one he had seen a person wearing on a Facebook page. The information was passed on to the investigating officer.

An officer responded to a caller seeking help with a vehicle problem near the intersection of Old Haines Highway and Fair Drive.

An out-of-town vehicle was parked on Mathias Avenue blocking a snow removal zone. Dispatch contacted Fairbanks police and troopers to help contact the owner. Dispatch got a phone number but was unable to contact the owner.

A caller at a trailer park near 1 Mile Haines Highway asked for help removing a man from a residence. Officers responded and determined a domestic violence assault had occurred. The man was arrested and charged with fourth-degree assault.

Thursday, Jan. 29

A woman asked for help getting a ferry ticket for her daughter who had no place to stay in Haines and wanted to go to Juneau to find work. Dispatch contacted ministerial assistance, which provided help.

A Deishu Drive resident reported finding footprints from the street leading into her yard. An officer responded and spoke with the caller.

A caller reported a vehicle parked on Main Street for more than two hours. The owner moved the vehicle.

Dispatch discovered the 911 system wasn’t functioning when a resident made a 911 call by mistake. Dispatch contacted the phone company, which restored service.

Multiple callers reported a vehicle in the ditch at 16 Mile Haines Highway. No injuries were reported. A resident helped remove the car from the ditch.

A caller reported a red pickup truck with a white shell driving on the Port Chilkoot Dock. An officer responded but was unable to locate the vehicle.

Wednesday, Jan. 28

A business owner near the intersection of Old Haines Highway and Jones Point Road reported an attempted break-in. An officer responded and determined a burglary had been attempted. No entry occurred but the door was damaged. Police initiated a case.

A caller reported two vehicles parked on Main Street for more than two hours. An officer responded and found both vehicles had moved.

A motorist reported the Haines Highway from 17 Mile to town was very icy and visibility was low.

A Deishu Drive resident reported she thought someone was stealing her firewood. An officer spoke with the caller.

Tuesday, Jan. 27

A caller reported a possible violation of a protective order. An officer spoke with the caller and determined no violation had occurred.

Troopers relayed a report of a possible drunk driver on Small Tracts Road. An officer located and stopped the driver, who was found to be sober.

A caller reported an unoccupied car parked at the stop sign near the intersection of Fourth Avenue and Union Street. An officer responded and found the owner had returned with another person to see if they could get the car to start and move it.
