A private donation providing free admission boosted the numbers of youths taking advantage of a new swim at the Haines pool.
Pool manager RaeAnn Galasso said she launched a Thursday afternoon swim from 2-3 p.m. last month aimed at students who are let out of classes early that day under a new schedule at the Haines School.
The swim drew about 30 swimmers, which Galasso described as a good turnout, but then swelled to 50 last week, when an anonymous donor stepped forward to rent the pool for the swim, making the swim free to users.
The donor also agreed to pay for this week’s swim.
Galasso said it’s great to see so many youths in the pool and said she was hoping other donors would step forward. The one-hour rental is $60. For information, contact Galasso at the pool, 766-2666.
