A caller reported that as he was stopped at a Main Street stop sign around 10:30 p.m., another vehicle ran the stop sign.

School district staff reported misconduct involving a controlled substance. Police responded and are investigating.

Sunday, Oct. 18

A Minnesota police department requested a welfare check on a juvenile in Haines. Police contacted the juvenile.

A driver on FAA Road was cited for failure to carry proof of insurance.

Saturday, Oct. 17

A caller reported that a person on Battle Road was blasting music and waking up his child. The caller requested police intervention as he has called multiple times on the noise. The caller stated that the noise had stopped. Police were advised.

A caller on Lutak Road reported being bitten by the dog she was pet-sitting. She was given the triage line for a doctor.

An anonymous caller reported a woman had been witnessed violating probation. The caller spoke to police regarding the violation.

Friday, Oct. 16

A caller reported the license number of a speeding vehicle on FAA Road. The registered owner was advised of the vehicles’ expired plates and the international driver was given a warning for excessive speed.

A caller reported a scam telephone call advising that the “Juneau Fire Department is doing a survey.” The caller checked with Juneau’s fire department and they are not doing a survey and have received other calls with the same complaint. Haines Police issued a scam alert.

A caller reported receiving continuing harassing phone calls from someone he knows. He was advised to obtain a protective order from the court.

Three protective orders were received from the Haines court. Two residents of Haines were served; the third party had already been served a long-term protective order by the court.

Thursday, Oct. 15

A caller on Second Avenue reported two teenage boys were seen walking up from an abandoned house known as the “swamp” on Second Avenue, where the caller believed they were smoking marijuana. Police were advised.

Police received a report of ongoing animal cruelty and mistreatment of a dog by a relative of the complainant. Officers are investigating.

Wednesday, Oct. 14

A caller from 26 Mile Haines Highway reported that a woman who came to look at an item on her property pushed her. She was given options for follow up and the report was referred to Alaska State Troopers.

A caller reported that a vehicle driven by an acquaintance nearly hit him and caused him to jump into a ditch at Second Avenue and Young Road. He believes the driver swerved to hit him on purpose. Haines Police investigated and interviewed all parties.

Tuesday, Oct. 13

A caller, camping at a Lutak Road location, reported a bear was growling just outside of his camper. State troopers were advised.

A boat owner reported a battery fire on his boat at the small boat harbor. Police and firefighters responded. When police arrived, the caller had already doused the flames with a fire extinguisher. Firefighters were called back.

An employee of a restaurant reported a small bear loitering near the business at the harbor. Police responded, but the bear had already left.
