A year’s time takes a toll on the Jones Point Cemetery. Weeds grow up, limbs fall off trees, trash blows in off the adjacent road.
An effort to clean up the town cemetery and veterans’ memorial in advance of the Memorial Day ceremony will be held 9-11 a.m. on Saturday, May 23.
Sally Lix said the Haines Borough keeps the grass cut at the cemetery, but other necessary work includes raking leaves and sprucing up around grave sites. She encourages families to clean up around their head stones there, as well as students who need community service work.
Volunteers should bring rakes and trowels. For more information, contact Bob or Sally Lix at 314-3076.
