The Haines School bands and choirs will bring their performances from the Southeast Alaska Music Festival to the Chilkat Center on April 22 and April 30.
The Haines High School will hold its Festival Concert at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 22. The Concert Choir, Concert Band, Jazz Ensemble and Man Choir will perform along with several soloists.
Music teacher Kristy Totten said the band will perform an original piece called “Sinking of the Bismarck,” written by former Haines resident Scott Hansen Jr., who now studies music at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
“It features music that was especially composed for each student in the group,” Totten said of Hansen’s composition.
Vocal soloists Madeline Andriesen, Lindsey Jobbins, Victoria Hansen, Rachel Haas, Neil Little and Dylan Palmieri will also perform.
Little will also perform a trumpet solo.
Grades 5-8 will hold their Spring Concert at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 30. Fifth-grade beginning band and grades 6-8 intermediate band and choir will perform.
Totten said the intermediate band will play Russian folk songs and two jazz pieces: “Uncle Milo’s Sideshow” and “Jammin’ with Charlie.”
