The Haines Borough Public Library is celebrating National Library Week April 12-18 with daily events including poetry readings, musical performances and film screenings.

“Unlimited Possibilities@Your Library” launches Sunday, April 12, and features daily “Music in the Stacks” performances by Alita Atkins, Holly Davis, HAL’s Pals and other musicians, from noon to 1 p.m.

Residents can participate in “Unusual Game Day” all Sunday afternoon and learn to play games like Go, a Chinese strategy board game, or Shut the Box, a dice game that tests risk assessment skills.

A community-wide poetry reading will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, April 18. Residents are encouraged to bring their own poetry or some of their favorite odes, sonnets or haikus to read aloud.

The week-long celebration marks the annual boon for delinquent library patrons: Friday, April 17, is Fine Forgiveness Day. Bring your library card between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. to have your late library fines erased.

After having your fines forgiven, stick around to enjoy some popcorn and catch the screening of Pixar’s “Wall-E” at 3:30 p.m.

Other activities include “Mobile Device Night” at 6 p.m. Monday (bring your iPads, smart phones and tablets to learn how to check out e-books and audiobooks), a Scrabble tournament at 6 p.m. Wednesday, and the Library Book Club’s discussion of David Bodanis’s “E=mc2: A Biography of the World’s Most Famous Equation” at 3 p.m. Saturday.

The Friends of the Library will hold their annual meeting welcoming new members to join at 5 p.m. Tuesday, April 14.
