Carl Taylor, 73, pleaded guilty Dec. 16 to violating a protective order on Sept. 1. A woman called police to report Taylor was at her Small Tracts Road home in violation of a long-term protective order. Police responded and tried to arrest Taylor, who lay on the ground and refused to move. Another officer arrived and helped move Taylor into the patrol car. Taylor was sentenced to 10 days in jail, a $100 fee, enrollment in an anger management counseling program, no contact with the woman and three years’ probation.
Sarah K. Roark, 41, pleaded guilty Dec. 18 to driving under the influence on April 3. Troopers responded to a single-vehicle rollover near 7 Mile Haines Highway. A responding state trooper smelled alcohol and noticed Roark’s slurred speech. Roark’s blood alcohol content was determined to be .162, after a blood sample was obtained using a search warrant. Roark was sentenced to a $1,850 fine, $125 in fees, completion of an alcohol treatment assessment, 90 days license revocation, six months of using an ignition interlock device and one year probation.
Mitchell E. Leggett, 24, pleaded guilty Nov. 6 to fraudulent use of an access device on May 15, 2012, and committing third-degree theft between April 19 and June 22, 2012. While working at a Haines business, Leggett illicitly used credit cards belonging to customers. He was sentenced to write a letter of apology, 40 hours of community service, payment of restitution and one year probation.
Sage Thomas, 44, pleaded guilty Dec. 30 to violating hunting seasons and bag limits for goats on Oct. 17. A trooper saw three people on the mountainside near 23 Mile Haines Highway. Through a spotting scope, the trooper saw the people had harvested at least two goats. The area was closed to hunting by emergency order. When the trooper contacted Thomas, Thomas admitted he shot the goat. He said he wasn’t aware of the emergency order and hadn’t checked with Fish and Game. Thomas was sentenced to a $1,000 fine, $800 in restitution, a $50 fee, forfeiture of the goat and one year probation.
Nygel Duffy-Webb, 22, pleaded guilty Dec. 30 to violating hunting seasons and bag limits for goats on Oct. 17. Duffy-Webb was involved in the same incident as Sage Thomas. Duffy-Webb admitted to troopers he shot a goat. He said he didn’t know he was in an area that had been closed by emergency order. Duffy-Webb was sentenced to a $1,000 fine, a $50 fee, forfeiture of the goat and his gun and one year probation.
Timmy Banks, 54, pleaded guilty Jan. 8 to driving with a revoked license and failure to carry proof of insurance on Jan. 1, 2013. Banks was stopped by an officer on Mud Bay Road. Banks admitted he didn’t have a valid driver’s license or car insurance. Banks was sentenced to a $700 fine and a $50 fee.
Giancarlo M. Gomez, 35, pleaded guilty Jan. 7 to violating conditions of release on Dec. 3. An officer saw Gomez’s vehicle parked at a business. The officer knew Gomez’s license had been previously revoked. When Gomez got into the vehicle, the officer pulled him over for a traffic violation. Gomez admitted his license was revoked. He was sentenced to five days in jail and a $100 fee. Gomez also pleaded guilty on Jan. 7 to driving with a revoked license on Oct. 18. An officer conducting a traffic stop found Gomez didn’t have a valid driver’s license. Gomez was sentenced to 10 days in jail, a $100 fee, 90 days of license revocation and two years’ probation.
