Ambulance and fire crews and police responded to a one-vehicle accident that killed Jonathan M. Graham, 21, of Haines. Police said Graham was not wearing a seatbelt when he crashed a 2002 Toyota pickup truck in front of Bigfoot Auto Service and Haines Home Building Supply, and said alcohol likely contributed to the accident.
A business on the west side of town requested information about how to remove abandoned vehicles from their property. An officer advised the business to have the vehicles towed at owner expense.
A caller reported a cinnamon black bear on Sixth Avenue that ran off into the woods.
A caller reported someone shooting fireworks out their car window at the Fort Seward parade grounds.
Sunday, July 3
Two callers reported a brown bear on Deishu Drive. An officer responded, but the bear was gone.
A caller reported a lot of smoke in the Small Tracts Road area and a possible unauthorized burn. An officer was advised and did not locate any fire.
The park ranger and ministerial services helped a person find a place to stay.
Saturday, July 2
A person reported a black Jeep had been parked in front of their Second Avenue business for four days.
A caller reported an older-style, black, four-door vehicle was speeding downtown and almost hit two older people. A state trooper was advised and did not locate the vehicle.
A caller requested an officer go check on their Deishu Drive house, because they were told someone had been staying there without permission. An officer checked the house and found no one.
A caller requested help finding a place to stay for the night. Ministerial services provided a room and taxi fare.
A person was charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol following a Third Avenue traffic stop near Deishu Drive.
Friday, July 1
A caller reported four kids were skateboarding down the hill to Lutak Road, and a vehicle was picking them up at the bottom and giving them rides back up the hill. An officer earlier told the kids they could skateboard there if they stayed out of the roadway.
A caller reported several unoccupied vehicles parked illegally in the bus area at the Port Chilkoot Dock. An officer contacted the owners.
A caller requested an officer speak to a person who was driving recklessly in the parking lot at an RV park. An officer was advised and gave the driver a warning.
A caller reported a dispute between two barbecue parties at an RV park. An officer responded, and the situation ended in a peaceful agreement.
A person was charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol following a Second Avenue traffic stop.
Wednesday, June 29
A business on the west side of town requested information on abandoned vehicles. An officer advised the caller about the process for having vehicles towed or claiming ownership of them.
A caller reported a person driving around town without a valid license. An officer checked and said the report was unfounded.
A caller reported a possible drunk driver heading into town from 10 Mile Lutak Road. An officer responded, and the driver was charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.
A caller reported three teenage boys trying to climb the roof at the library. An officer responded and did not locate the teens.
A caller reported someone might be taking tires off a vehicle near the post office. An officer responded and found a person working on their car.
Tuesday, June 28
A caller reported a dump truck speeding and weaving into the other lane of traffic leaving town on the Haines Highway by Piedad Road. An officer was advised and did not locate the vehicle.
A business requested help locating the owner of a vehicle to get it moved. An officer provided the information.
A caller reported a child’s bike had been stolen from their downtown residence. An officer was advised and initiated a case.
There were 24 medical calls and four calls about dogs.
