The American Bald Eagle Foundation has named Carol Clifton as its 2014 Artist of the Year.

Clifton’s work will be displayed in the foundation’s media gallery for the duration of this year’s Alaska Bald Eagle Festival from Monday, Nov. 10, to Sunday, Nov. 16.

Clifton, a 47-year resident, will also work on a project throughout the festival, demonstrating her technique. Demonstrations will run throughout the week, though times haven’t yet been set.

Foundation executive director Cheryl McRoberts called Clifton’s paintings “amazing.”

“You just get lost in the pictures. You just feel like you are right there. She puts so much feeling into them,” McRoberts said.

Clifton said she tends to focus on landscapes, wildlife, seascapes and portraits. She generally uses oil paints.

Her favorite painting to be displayed at the gallery is a landscape of the Coast Mountains as viewed from Second Avenue with three eagles in flight.

Clifton’s work is displayed throughout Southeast. Her painting of the Letnikof Cove cannery is on display in the Governor’s Mansion in Juneau. Another large mural is at the Captain’s Choice motel in Haines, and a six-foot angel adorns a wall at the Assembly of God church.

The eagle foundation has selected artists of the year since 1994.
