Thanks to all who voted and ran in our local election. Turning to the statewide election, a very close vote is expected in the US Senate race. If you care about fish, then Mark Begich is your man for the Senate seat.
Senator Begich chairs the primary Senate committee in charge of fisheries, oceans, and the Coast Guard. This is a leadership position for fish Alaska can’t afford to lose. Begich has also been a strong defender of wild Alaska salmon against genetically modified fish.
By contrast, his opponent led the failed effort to take away Alaskans’ rights in decisions concerning streams and rivers, including those that support fish. Luckily, the proposed bill HB77 stalled after opposition by hundreds of Alaskans.
If you care about fish, this is the election for you. Vote for Mark Begich Nov. 4 or check into absentee and early voting.
