U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, will visit Haines on Thursday, Aug. 7.

Murkowski’s tentative schedule includes a “windshield tour” of town with borough officials at 9 a.m., a tour of the Soboleff-McRae Veterans Village at 10 a.m., and a community meet-and-greet from noon to 2 p.m. at the Chilkat Center.

Murkowski plans to visit Klukwan’s Jilkaat Kwaan Cultural Heritage Center at 2:30 p.m. and the Haines Brewing Co. at 3:45 p.m.

Aide Matthew Felling said Murkowski’s stop here makes up for an earlier one that was scratched due to foul weather. Murkowski wants to hear from constituents on their day-to-day concerns, he said. Her stop at the brewery links to her role as co-chair of the Senate Brewer’s Caucus and a goal to reduce taxes on the nation’s smallest brewers.

Murkowski has served in the Senate since 2002. Her Senate seat expires in 2016.
