I’m saddened by the passing of Art Jess, but even more inspired by his legacy. He was a model for me – a keen listener, broad thinker, patient witness, and deep chuckler. We often connected at the museum when he’d meet me at the front desk. He always had time for conversation, usually some local issue or a bit of history. Whether at the store or community event, he usually ambled over to say “hi” and offer a small, pithy observation which effectively drew back the veil on human behavior.
Here’s to Art, for his great intelligence and empathy and to Leanne Converse, whose life has been enriched. And here’s to those community members who saw in Art’s eyes a real love of humanity and are brave enough to carry the message forth.
