Registration has opened for Lynn Canal Community Players’ Summer Youth Theater Conservatory.

The annual, theater day camp runs June 30 to July 20 at the Chilkat Center, culminating July 18-19 with a performance of “The Mad Adventures of Mr. Toad,” a play adapted from the book, “The Wind in the Willows.”

“It’s going to be a fun play. There’s a lot of action, particularly with the weasels, stoats, and ferrets, which are the bad guys,” said Annette Smith of LCCP.

The program will be headed up by Dr. Stanley Coleman, a speech professor at Lane Community College in Eugene, Ore. An associate of former Haines drama teacher Dan Henry, Coleman holds a doctorate degree in theater and operated a children’s theater in Thibodaux, La. for four years, Smith said.

The daily program is open to youths ages 8-18 for full-day sessions; a half-day “playmaking” session is offered for youths ages 5-7.

Cathy Pashigian will lead the playmaking session. LCCP also is seeking to hire a full-time director’s assistant and a half-time playmaking assistant.

Registration forms are at Babbling Book and the Haines School. A preregistration discount is available until June 7. Some half-time scholarships are available. For more information, contact Smith at 766-2708.
