Beginners and experts alike will benefit from an eight-week woodworking class that starts Tuesday, Feb. 18, said Community Education Director John Hagen.
The class meets every Tuesday for eight weeks from 6 to 9 p.m. in the vocational education building woodshop. The class is taught by vocational education teacher Darwin Feakes.
The class is hands-on, so Feakes will be able to work with individuals of differing levels. “Some people will come with a project in mind they want to create, but (Feakes) can help you figure out a project where you get the most out of your time if you don’t have a project,” Hagen said.
Not only will participants have access to a large array of power and hand tools, they will also learn how to use them safely, he said.
The eight-week class costs $120. Hagen said five people have signed up so far. The class has a maximum enrollment of 12 people.
Participants should expect to provide their own materials if they have a big project in mind, though there will be small pieces of scrap wood available.
“If somebody wanted to make a big set of cabinets or a new dining room table, then those are supplies that they should be bringing,” Hagen said.
