“Valhalla,” a skiing film that includes footage from Haines, will screen 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4 at the Fort Seward Lodge.

A fundraiser for the Haines Avalanche Information Center, the film will include a pre-show slide presentation by resident Graham Kraft on a backcountry ski trek he and Luc Nehl made two years ago from Yakutat to McCarthy. “They’ve got some amazing photos and some great stories,” said Erik Stevens, a forecaster for the local avalanche center.

“Valhalla” is a narrated account of a trip to a mythical ski destination that’s different from most ski films, Stevens said. “It’s definitely a ski movie, but I think non-skiers will enjoy it, as well.”

There’s a $5 suggested donation. For more on the film, go to sweetgrassproductions.com.

The local forecast center reports on snow conditions and avalanche danger. Its website is alaskasnow.org/haines.
