Minutes from Haines Borough Assembly meetings reaching back to November haven’t been drafted or approved due to high workload, borough staff said at the Jan. 14 assembly meeting.
Assembly member George Campbell asked staff why minutes still hadn’t been drafted from several previous assembly meetings.
“We’ve got minutes from October that have not been approved, and that was a meeting that (assembly member Diana Lapham) and I hadn’t even been sworn in (at),” Campbell said.
The Oct. 22 minutes were approved at Tuesday’s meeting.
Minutes are a written record of what is said and done during a public meeting and are used as an objective reference for decision-making and other informational purposes during future meetings. They are usually drafted by staff after a meeting and approved at the following meeting by the assembly.
Minutes are missing from the Nov. 12 and Dec. 10 meetings.
Interim clerk Michelle Webb said she was “backlogged very slightly, so to speak” on typing up the minutes, and that she spoke with interim clerk Julie Cozzi about the issue.
“We’re just trying to make sure that we prioritize my workload accordingly, so that way things that are the most critical are dealt with with the limited time that I have in the office,” Webb said.
Webb estimated she would be caught up by the end of February at the latest.
