Former Haines resident Derrick Howard recently released “The Case of the Vanishing Scroll,” a mystery-adventure book written for the fourth- to sixth-grade audience.
In the story, an ancient scroll vanishes from the Egyptian museum. Police accuse Sam’s friend, the archaeologist Dr. DiGenio, of stealing the manuscript.
One goal of the author was to write a family-friendly book without the darker elements so common in today’s childrens’ books. “I would like this series to be a fun, wholesome source of reading for kids.”
