Haines Borough police charged a 22-year-old Haines man with third-degree theft Monday following the pilfering of nearly $200 from pool locker rooms.

According to court documents, a person at the pool spotted the man, who was wearing baggy pants and a hooded sweatshirt, walking through the lobby. One of the lifeguards said she remembered seeing the man a few days earlier, because he had come in, asked to use the bathroom and then left.

On Oct. 30 and Nov. 4, three people reported different amounts of cash missing from their pool lockers: $150, $11 and $20-$30.

When interim Sgt. Jason Rettinger confronted the suspect at his residence, the man admitted to taking the money.

He is scheduled to be arraigned at 10 a.m. on Dec. 5.
