Haines Borough police aren’t cracking down on cracked windshields.
Interim Sgt. Jason Rettinger wrote a citation for a cracked windshield last week, alarming some residents that similar citations would become the norm in a community where cracked and damaged windshields aren’t uncommon.
Interim police chief Simon Ford said the vehicle windshield in question caused the driver to have “substantial compromised vision.”
“You’d be hard-pressed in Haines to find a windshield that doesn’t have some kind of crack in it. But when it goes all the way across and the bottom of it is spiderwebbed and you can’t see out of a pretty good percentage of your window, then that needs to be fixed,” Ford said.
