The Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee of Haines is leading a trail clean-up Saturday on the Mount Riley trail between Battery Point and the summit.

Committee member Marnie Hartman said volunteers are invited to “come as they can, stay as they can.” The committee, along with hoped-for volunteers, will be clearing the trail and doing general trail maintenance, Hartman said.

They will meet at the Battery Point trailhead at 9 a.m and continue working until noon. Those arriving later can find the group along the trail.

The route was chosen for cleanup, Hartman said, because it’s used for the half marathon at the Southeast Alaska State Fair.

“As a group we want to get out into the trail community and make a greater impact,” Hartman said.

Volunteers with questions should contact state park ranger Preston Kroes at 766-2292.
