Growing up in Haines, I could never understand the pull this town had on my mom, Sue Meacock.
In my 20s, I thought it must be the slower pace of life.
In my 30s, I thought it had to be the mountains.
In my 40s, and after my mom’s service and reception last Saturday, May 18 – a day we will never forget – I decided it’s you, the people of Haines.
We would like to thank several people for their hard work and dedication. Rayne Litera saw that no detail was
overlooked. Fr. Perry Kenaston gave a wonderful service. Dick Flegel sang two songs (I know my mom was smiling). Doris Bell worked all day and into the night on the most beautiful bouquets ever. Sandy Martin cooked and cooked, on all days, her birthday. Great job. Thank you. Jim Moran prepared the American Legion Hall. A special mention is owed to Bonnie and Terry Sharnbroich.
I wish I could think of something clever and heartfelt to say, but for once in my life I’m speechless. So, on behalf of
the entire Meacock family, I will just say to this community – the greatest place on earth – thank you.
