Lynn Canal Conservation will host a presentation Friday, Feb.1 at the Chilkat Center giving an overview of current mining projects in Alaska and the toxins associated with their operation.
Heidi Zimmer, environmental health and justice coordinator for Alaska Community Action on Toxics, will speak on Alaskan mining projects and their environmental impacts at the 6 p.m “Mining 101: Mining and Community Health” presentation.
LCC members said they are not casting the presentation as anti-mining, but as “pro-informed citizenry.”
LCC will bring four presenters to Haines between February and April to discuss various aspects of mining. The presentations are funded by a grant from the Western Mining Action Network.
