Your scenery is stunning. Your wildlife is plentiful. And your close subsistence connections to the land and sea are the envy of the world. But a place is only as good as its people, and in this you are unmatched. During my recent artist residency in Haines, I experienced over-the-top graciousness, generosity, and friendship. I also set a personal record of most consecutive days of eating delicious and nutritious wild salmon! There aren’t many places that allow people to live your incredible way of life, and you live it well and with deep appreciation. And it is with deep appreciation that I thank you for welcoming me into your wonderful community and making me feel a part of it.
